What Buddha Quote Inspires You?

What Buddha Quote Inspires You?

Buddhism is a philosophy, a moral code, and, for some a religious faith which originated 2,500 years ago in India. It offers a diagnosis of the suffering of mankind and provides a formula for individuals to resolve that suffering. It offers a moral code based on compassion and non-violence. Through  meditation Buddhism offers a way to achieve spiritual insight and provides a path to reach a deeper understanding of the nature of reality. Directing inwards, Buddhism offers a practical way to connect with everyday life and with others.

Though the Buddha himself wrote nothing his teaching was communicated entirely orally and the details we have today are from the writings many years after his death. One saying of Buddha that resonates with me is, ‘The mind is everything. What you think you become.’ This statement to me is infinite and beautiful.

Tell us your inspiring saying by Buddha. Use any amount of words. All responses will be thoughtful, I am sure, however, the  most thoughtful response will receive a terracotta image of Buddha like the one pictured below free. Please send your thoughts via the field below by August 31st and please,  don’t forget your contact information The most thoughtful response will be announced that week.

The Rams Head Fountain in Travertine Marble

The Rams Head Fountain in Travertine Marble

One of my favorite travertine fountains is The Rams Head.

The animal symbolism of the ram speaks of: Power, Force, Drive, Energy, Virility, Protection, Fearlessness.
A look into mythology will reveal the ram was associated with many gods over time. All admirable traits for a god amongst the people!

The Celtic god Cernunnus is shown with the ram. Some depictions show him seated with a ram-headed snake by his side a symbolic gesture of renewal and power.

In ancient Egypt the god Amun-Ra took on the persona of Khnum, the creator god who was always depicted with a ram’s head.

In Scandinavia, Thor was close with the ram, and was fabled to use rams to pull his chariot.
Other gods connected to the strong-willed ram are:

  • Zeus (Greece)
  • Apollo (Greece)
  • Agni (India)
  • Indra (India)
  • Hermes (Roman)
  • Ea (Middle East)
  • Baal (Middle East)

Posing strong and daunting the travertine stone marble Rams Head fountain (shown above)  currently adorns a beautiful Tuscan garden at The Vineyard Inn. He majestically stands 3’H x 2’L x 1’D and is one of two in our inventory. How mighty a pair would make in the right landscape setting! Like what you see? Click here for more.

Winterizing Terracotta and Glazed Pots

Winterizing Terracotta and Glazed Pots

As we enter the winter season Annuals shortly will end their life cycle in their beautiful terra cotta pots. And so it will be time to winterize your pots to prevent them from damage and disintegrating.  Improper storage could lead to cracking and chipping especially in cold climates.

Start by emptying dirt and plants from the pots. Rinse and scrub all excess soil. Make a mixture of water and household baking soda to a paste consistency and apply it to the outside of the clay pot. Let the paste set for about 45 minutes then scrub and rinse the paste off. This will remove the white stains that may be on the pot due to poor quality water or fertilizer.

To remove and kill any fungus or bacteria that may be in your earthenware  pot, wash thoroughly with a solution of bleach and soapy water. Now place the pots in an area where they can dry. Remember, water left in a terracotta pot in freezing climate conditions could cause the pot to crack so make sure your terracotta pot is completely dry before storage.

These few steps will help preserve your terracotta pots for years to come. Enjoy!

Fine Vineyard Art by Caroline Creamer

Growing up with a rich tradition of artists dating back to her great-grandmother and grandmother Caroline was entertained  with oil paints, brushes, and canvas. Being surrounded by the artist heritage, Caroline painted before she could read. Over time  her work gained recognition nationally and across the globe.  Occasionally taking a respite from painting, Caroline would return being restless for her love of painting. Good spirited and  joyful, Caroline has captivated us with her personality and artistry. We, at Sonoma Garden Living are proud to have on display an exquisite collection of Carolines paintings for viewing and purchase. Please take a few moments and view her artistry in our Interior Decor gallery or click here to view her entire collection. We hope you will enjoy!
